Few are left untouched by some facet of Chef Anthony Bourdain’s life.  Tens of millions religiously watched his shows over the years—on Food Network, the Travel Channel, and now CNN.  Millions read his funny and often irreverent books.  The beautiful culinary world he visualized for us in our homes—rhapsodized in his CNN show’s theme song by Queens of the Stone Age—is, perhaps, more responsible than any other single influence...

Even those who don’t know much about food have heard of a little restaurant in Yountville, CA (in the Napa Valley) named The French Laundry.  Twenty years ago, it led the way among a new breed of fine-dining restaurants focused on American, rather than strictly French, cuisine.  As it became more and more popular, its Chef—the revered Thomas Keller—was named best chef in the world.  It was considered the best restaurant in Ame...

We recently spent ten days in Paris on what was, essentially, a food and wine trip.  We enjoyed some wonderful culinary adventures, including at the Michelin starred L'Atelier Maitre Albert - a sleek, dark, sexy, romantic rotisserie restaurant headed by chefs Guy Savoy and Emmanuel Monsallier.  We loved how the restaurant mixed old and new decor.  It was a fantastic juxtaposition with a medieval stone fireplace (with a wood fi...

Now that all of the holiday festivities are officially over, we have time to share about our recent 10-day trip to Paris that we were lucky enough to take between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  While we did some sight-seeing, and that was definitely enjoyable, it was really a food and wine trip for us.  And enjoy both we definitely did.  While we'll post about specific experiences / restaurants over the coming days and weeks, we...

We recently needed to travel to Newport, RI for a quick weekend trip.  Whenever we're in Newport, we try to eat at what was then Stoneacre Pantry (now re-named Stoneacre Tapas) on Thames Street.  We've been there too many times to count, and the food and service have always been amazing.  One of our favorite Newport experiences was when the staff prepared us an 8-course black and white truffle dinner.  So fresh.  So delicious....

One our favorite Chicago experiences was discovering the goodness that is Chef Grant Achatz' newest creation--his casual, New American themed restaurant Roister.  For those of you who may not be familiar with Chef Achatz, he's the superstar chef behind 3 Michelin star rated Alinea (one of the 50 best restaurants in the world), and high-end craft cocktail bar The Aviary (one of the 50 best bars in the world).  He worked under T...

We recently took a weekend culinary trip to Chicago, with the sole purpose of trying some of the best restaurants the city has to offer.  While we enjoyed many fabulous food experiences while there (Blackbird, Tru, and North Pond among them), one of the best was at Sixteen--a fabulous two-star Michelin-rated restaurant that occupies the sixteenth floor of the 98 story, 1,388 foot tall Trump International Hotel and Tower i...

On a recent trip to Chicago, we visited Blackbird--a one star Michelin restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Kahan.  Cameron had been to this restaurant back in 2013 (the year Kahan won his James Beard Award), and was impressed.  We wanted to see if it was still worthy of all the acclaim.

We actually walked to the restaurant on a beautiful late-summer day for an early lunch.  Deciding to sit outside and enjoy t...

We were lucky enough to be able to try Tru on our recent trip to Chicago.  Tru is one of a small group of restaurants in Chicago that have been awarded 2 stars by the Michelin Guide--a huge honor, and one that creates enormous expectations on the part of the diner.  For those who haven't been to a 2 or 3 Michelin star establishment, these are all multi-course restaurants, with a normal dinner taking several hours.  Service is...

We recently took a food-centric trip to Chicago to experience all of the Michelin-starred restaurants we could fit in a long weekend.  The airline tickets were cheap, the weather was great, and the time was right.  We were off.  Unfortunately, that meant we were "off" with a 6:00 a.m. Saturday-morning flight.  But who needs sleep when there's great food to eat??

Seeing as how we had been up since 3:15 a.m. to sho...

In Texas, barbecue is king.  One thing most of the Texas legends (i.e. Pecan Lodge and Franklin Barbecue chief among them) have in common is that they started small, and gained respect the hard way.  Whenever we travel in-state, we're always in search of hole-in-the-wall, off-the-beaten-path BBQ joints to try, hoping to find the next hidden gem.  We recently took a trip with our wine group to Lake Buchanan (outside of Burnet)...

Thanks to a friend (Bryan Bond), we recently read a scathing review by Jay Rayner of one of the most expensive restaurants in the world.  Reading about how Mr. Rayner believes Le Cinq, at the George V Hotel in Paris, should lose its Michelin stars (it currently has 3) reminded us of a terrible dining experience we had a while back at another Michelin-starred restaurant--La Toque, in Napa.  In case anyone is planning a summer e...

We've recently spent some time outside of Dallas, and had the opportunity to be in and around the Corsicana area a few times.  Having never really visited Corsicana itself, we were completely unsure where we should eat, or if there was anyplace even worth eating at.  Google didn't exactly help either.  It pointed us to generic Mexican restaurants that were busy, but less than stellar.  To put it kindly, we were unimpressed....

We were traveling Thanksgiving week, and had a layover in Chicago.  Hungry, thirsty, and looking for a quick snack before boarding our next flight, we found Tortas Frontera, by Chef Rick Bayless, and decided to stop in for a bit of guacamole and a couple of margaritas.

Now, for those of you who don't know Rick Bayless, here's a very short biography.  He's about as authentic as it comes when you're trying to find good Mex...

Recently we were in Newport, RI for a little over a week.  We've been to Newport over a dozen times at this point--we got engaged here, we got married here, etc.  We like it up here.  A lot.  We've been to all sorts of restaurants in and around Newport--good, bad, and simply average.  But we'd never been to the Red Parrot.

We'd heard a lot of different things about the Red Parrot.  We'd heard that it was a f...
