Cock & Bull: A Great Neighborhood Pub

C&B is one of our favorite places to eat in Lakewood, and we think is one of the most underrated spots as well. We like it for so many reasons - the jukebox, the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, the people watching late at night, and (most importantly) the food. We view C&B as our own version of Cheers - the neighborhood bar where everybody knows your name.

We come here for brunch, lunch, and late night dinner, seven days a week. The great thing about their menu is that there's an option for whatever pub food you're craving - a Chicago dog (which is fantastic), a Reuben, a burger, a grown-up grilled cheese, a gyro... the list goes on. Although most restaurants with this type of variety often suck at everything on the menu (jack of all trades, master of none), C&B is truly a jack of all pub-fare. And if you're going for a more "down home" dining experience (not pub food), we recommend the blue plate special offered on Sunday evenings after 5:00 p.m. At $8 per person, you really can't beat the price. Options for the blue plate special have included steak over a bed of wasabi mashed potatoes, or pot roast with veggies and gravy. They change every week. Get there early--they're so popular that they routinely run out.

We usually go with artichoke dip to start. It's piping hot and served with thick sea salt crackers, sesame crackers, and the best warm pita bread. We don't know what's more addictive, the cheesy dip itself or the warm pita. Either way, it's a great way to warm up on a winter day.

For the main course, we almost always go with the white bull burger - add bacon, cheddar, and avocado. This is usually big enough to share, or the perfect size on your own if you're super hungry. The burger isn't going to change your life, but it's consistently tasty and would definitely rank on our list of best no-frills burgers in Dallas. All of C&B's entrees are served with either chips and salsa (this is Texas) or roasted potatoes.

Overall, C&B is one of our favorite late night options when we can't decide on what to have for dinner (or if we're really longing to play some Johnny Cash on a jukebox). We highly recommend this dive!
